Anderson Bynum

JCC Womens Basketball will be under new leadership.  Anderson Bynum has been named Interim Head Womens Basketball Coach for the Lady Jags.  Coach Bynum comes to JCC with a wealth of experience and knowledge.  

Bynum most recently served as a color commentator during the 2021 - 2022 basketball season. He covered semi professinal, high school, and college games statewide.  Before going into the media Coach Bynum served as the head coach of the women's basketball team at Caldwell Community College. During his tenur, Bynum produced 4 NCAA/NAIA players, and also a Region 10 Division 1 player of the year.  
 
Before going to Caldwell, Bynum served as the women’s basketball coach for Owen High School in Black Mountain, NC, and a volunteer program assistant at Warren Wilson College. Bynum served as the interim head coach at Clinton College for the men’s basketball program for the 2018-19 season. He replaced head coach Larry Mullins who stepped down at the start of the season.  Bynum, who inherited a 2-6 team, was able to rally the Golden Bears, who ultimately finished with a record of 20-12, ranked 6th nationally, a conference tournament championship, conference Player of the Year, National Coach of the Year nomination and Conference Coach of the Year.
 
Prior to becoming interim head coach at Clinton, Bynum served on the Clinton staff for three seasons as an Assistant Coach and Associate Head Coach.  He also served in the role of Assistant Athletic Director.  Bynum also served as head coach at Virginia University of Lynchburg, Patrick Henry College, Spotsylvania High School, Combine Academy, and an assistant at Charis Prep, and Chancellor HS.
 
Bynum got his start in coaching under legendary championship college coach Levelle Moton in a manager/operations role at North Carolina Central University.
 
He played collegiately at Methodist College, where his team was able to collect the 2008 USA South Conference Championship. 
 
Bynum brings to Johnston Community College experience at recruiting and coaching at the college and prep level. On the teams that he has worked with, over 150 student-athletes have gone on to advance to college from the high school ranks or to four-year institutions from the junior college ranks. Academic success is also important to Bynum and his teams have a combined an overall GPA of 3.0.
