Jaguars Making History !

The month of October is filled with excitement in the world of sports. Football is in full swing, the World Series is Underway, Zamboni’s are resurfacing ice in preparation for Lord Stanley’s Cup, and sneakers are screeching on the hardwood. In North Carolina basketball is a way of life. You would be hard pressed to find a college basketball fan not donning some shade of blue in the Central or Eastern part of the state, but in Smithfield there is another type of blue on the horizon. The Johnston Community College Jaguar men’s basketball team are for the first time in program history undefeated. With five straight wins by an average margin of 17 points, the Jaguars had their will tested on November 20th against the Lancers of Lenoir Community College. A game of strong determination the Jaguars stifling defense prevailed in the end as the battle tested cats pulled out a thrilling 5 point victory. The win improved the Johnston Community College Jaguars record to a total of 6 wins and 0 losses. “Even though it is early in the season, the future looks bright for the Jaguars and second year coach Hollis "Jay" Creecy,” said Athletic Director Derrick Arnold. “I always tell our student athletes to respect themselves, their families, and Johnston Community College and the rest will fall into place, the hard work is paying off. Coach Creecy and his staff has done a great job in scouting and recruiting local talent that can help our program grow and be successful,” Arnold said. The Jaguars are back in action this weekend as they hit road to take on the Catawba College JV Indians of Salisbury, North Carolina. Their next home game with be on Monday December 2, 2019 at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatic Center (SRAC) located at 600 E. Booker Dairy Rd. Smithfield, North Carolina. Make sure you come out to see what all of the excitement is about and be sure to wear you Jaguar Blue, because something special is on the horizon.
